We can only transfer UK holdings and there must be no change in beneficial ownership, i.e. the stock is held solely in your own name. To transfer investments from another broker into your account, you will need to sign in and select 'Account Management' from the left hand menu followed by 'Transfer Forms'. In the 'Broker Transfer', section click the option to ‘transfer your shares from another stockbroker or from another ISA Manager’.

If you are transferring into The Motley Fool Self-Select ISA, you will need to open the account with us before we can transfer any investments. To open The Motley Fool Self-Select ISA you will need to sign in and select 'Account Management' from the left hand menu followed by 'Add An Account'.

Before completing the online transfer form, ensure that you have the account selected where you want to deposit the shares on transfer. If you have more than one account, select the appropriate account from the 'Change account to be viewed>>' drop down list and click 'Go'.

Simply complete the online transfer form, print it out, sign and return it to us. We will then contact the other broker and arrange to electronically transfer your stock (and any cash if you are transferring an ISA).

Please note that this process can take a few weeks and the timescale is largely dependent on the other broker and the registrars of each stock held. You will be able to trade these stocks with us as soon as the full transfer has taken place.

The Motley Fool Self-Select ISA:
Under HM Revenue & Customs regulations it is not possible to directly transfer existing holdings into an ISA unless they have matured from an approved employee sharesave, share option or share incentive plan within the last 90 days. If the shares are not from such a plan and you hold paper share certificates, you will need to deposit them into either The Motley Fool Share Dealing Account or The Motley Fool ShareBuilder, sell the shares then reinvest the proceeds into The Motley Fool Self-Select ISA. This sale may trigger a gain for Capital Gains Tax purposes.

If your shares have matured from an approved plan you should firstly deposit them into The Motley Fool Share Dealing Account or The Motley Fool ShareBuilder. Then you will need to send us a written request to directly transfer your shares into The Motley Fool Self-Select ISA, along with proof that the shares have emerged from an approved scheme into your name in the last 90 days. We would recommend that you send such requests at least two weeks before the end of the 90 day period to give us time to carry out relevant checks. Please send this for the attention of The Motley Fool Share Dealing Service Specialised Products Department, Lovell Park Road, Leeds, LS1 1NS. If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to call us on 0845 609 0006 or e-mail us at customerservices@foolsharedealing.co.uk.
